On 5 October 2021, the U.K. Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) issued updated travel advice for Japan, which reads in part as follows: “Since Japan is no longer under a State of Emergency, travel between prefectures is permitted. Measures encouraging social distancing, mask-wearing and other basic precautions remain in place. Some businesses may be closed, or operating with reduced hours. A more restrictive State of Emergency, or other rules and controls, may be imposed at short notice. You should follow the instructions of your local authority.”
