Shortly after 1200 local time (0700 UTC) on 7 February 2024, two suspected suicide bombings occurred in the Khanuzai and Qilla Saifullah areas in the Pishin district of southwestern Baluchistan province — located approximately 60 km (35 mi) southwest of the provincial capital Quetta. The first bombing in Khanuzai occurred near the campaign office of an independent election candidate, killing 14 people and wounding 23 others. Subsequently, another bomb detonated outside the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam party’s campaign office in Qillah Saifullah, killing at least 10 people and wounding 20 others. The bombings were carried out the day before the parliamentary and provincial elections in Pakistan. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the bombings; militant Islamist groups, as well as the outlawed separatist organization Baluchistan Liberation Army, actively operate in the province.
