On 16 July 2020, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) extended a current No Sail Order for passenger cruise ships through 30 September. The ban was initially enacted on 14 March and had been set to expire on 24 July after a renewal on 9 April. The full text of the order is available here.
Analyst Comment: The CDC issued the extension as COVID-19 cases continue to increase across the U.S., particularly in the southern states of Florida and Texas, and at least 25 of the 50 U.S. states have reintroduced restrictive measures to slow the spread of the disease. A total of more than 77,000 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the U.S. on 16 July; officials in both Florida and Texas reported record high COVID-19 cases the same day.
