On 23 May 2022, the U.S. Embassy in Bamako issued a Security Alert, which reads in part as follows: “The U.S. Embassy in Mali reminds U.S. citizens that a terrorist attack in Bamako may be planned targeting Malian government offices, the airport, and/or locations frequented by Westerners including diplomatic facilities, hotels, and restaurants.

“A curfew is no longer in place for Embassy staff. However, employees have been advised to avoid crowded areas and venues frequented by Westerners.”
