At approximately 1030 local time (0830 UTC) on 8 June 2022, a motorist drove his car into a crowd in the western Charlottenburg neighborhood of the capital Berlin. Eyewitness reports indicate that the vehicle struck a group of people on a sidewalk along Tauentzienstrasse street before crashing through the window of a storefront. According to a police spokesperson, one person was killed and at least 12 others were wounded. Several of the injured victims are in serious condition. The motorist, a German-Armenian local resident, was detained at the scene. It is currently unknown whether the event was a deliberate act.
